Main Project Info
A conversion of the former Amnesty International building, designed to challenge the institutional stereotype. Part funded by the late Anita Roddick and Gordon Roddick of the Body Shop. DMFK won the scheme in a limited competition.
A nursery, a creche, OFSTED approved education facilities, teen club, therapy and counselling rooms, library, yoga workshop, restaurant, offices, music studio and sports area are centred around the core clad in different coloured soft felts, designed by artist Sophie Smallhorn.
Each floor is designed to suit the use on that floor with the core as a common element linking them. Materials are selected to be soft and approachable; felt, cork, resin bound marble chips, natural woods, and coloured laminates have been carefully combined.
