Main Project Info
The client for this 1980’s house, located in a picturesque valley in a North London suburb wanted to open up the back of the house making use of its panoramic views, creating a space to rest and contemplate.
Sunnyfields is well orientated and completely private, so a thoughtfully serviced minimal glass structure with maximum visibility, mirroring the landscape around was what we felt the site deserved.
Open to the house, the extension is an insulated silicone bonded structural glass enclosure. The roof with its incline pitched up towards the garden brings the greatest amount of light into and views from the existing house. A reverse inclined clerestory improves light to existing spaces. A stone floor finish was used inside and out to reinforce the relationship between the house and garden and, along with giant sliding glass doors, bring the garden in to the house.
