Director Julian de Metz spoke to Sownd Affects about what makes a space audio inclusive and the importance of good sound design in creating spaces that work for everyone.
On average, people in a typical office could lose over 20 minutes a day to distractions based on sound. And that’s before we even consider the impact on people who may be more sensitive to noise, or who face hearing problems.
dMFK is working with Sownd Affects to support its new certification which verifies the sound quality of a space, giving users the confidence that an office is designed with their comfort and quality of experience in mind.
As one of a handful of pioneer practices using the certification, we are championing its use across the industry and encouraging other architects, building owners, and consultants to consider how they specify, design and use spaces.

At 76 Charlotte Street, our studio is already Bronze Sownd Certified, thanks to careful specification of materials, such as Oscar Acoustics’ SonaSpray, which put human comfort first.
